The anther is a part of the stamen associated with pollen. The organ and the pollen are different things.

The practical reading distinction is between a whole flower and one of its parts. A caption can become misleading if it moves between these levels without naming the change. The same issue occurs when an entire inflorescence is described as though it were a single flower.

Cannabis morphology research supplies vocabulary for individual structures and their arrangement. Its usefulness here is descriptive: it helps a reader understand which botanical subject a source is discussing.

Pollen is not

Pollen and seeds occupy different roles in flowering-plant reproduction. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s account of cannabis biology provides the broader reproductive context. Calling both simply reproductive particles hides a distinction that matters to the question being asked.

A photograph of pollen-bearing tissue is therefore not a photograph of seeds forming in the same structure. The language should identify whether the subject is a floral organ, pollen or a seed. Similar-looking words do not make them stages of one visible object.

What would make
a clear botanical caption?

A useful caption first names its subject and scale. It can then identify which visible feature the source is discussing. If an image is a diagram or illustration, the caption should distinguish that from a documented photograph.

For example, a fictional caption might say “developing flower, shown in a botanical illustration” or “detail of a labelled anther in a specimen photograph.” These statements describe different evidence. Neither should be silently rewritten as a record of the other.

Image resolution also affects the appropriate wording. A wide view may show the arrangement of floral regions while not resolving their internal structures. A close-up can show a detail without providing the surrounding context. The caption should fit the view actually available.

A plant-level category and a description of one floral structure are different scales of observation. Research by Punja and Holmes documents variation in cannabis floral expression, which is a reason to retain that distinction rather than treating every short label as a complete account.

An observation of an organ should stay attached to the material observed. It does not, by itself, establish a complete genetic history or a statement about every structure on every related plant.

This is not a reason to avoid anatomical names. It is a reason to use them accurately. A precise organ description can be both useful and limited, without becoming a universal conclusion.
