The strain library
A name woven into DNA Genetics’ early history. Follow LA Confidential from its reported parent lines to dated competition results and its place in a later cross.
Behind the name
DNA Genetics identifies LA Confidential as a cross of OG LA Affie and Afghani. Its profile credits the development of the variety to DNA Genetics itself, giving the parentage statement a first-party source.
Keep all three names distinct: OG LA Affie and Afghani describe the reported parents, while LA Confidential identifies the resulting variety. A name appearing within a pedigree does not become an alternative name for the entire cross.
DNA Genetics’ own timeline records third place in the Indica category at the 2004 High Times Cannabis Cup for L.A. Confidential. The following year, it records second place in the same category.
The company describes the 2004 result as its first Cannabis Cup award. These are specific milestones in its account: the date, competition and placing give more context than an undated award-winning label. They describe historical entries, rather than measurements of every later specimen.
DNA Genetics describes an earthy, skunky aroma with pine and spice among its sensory associations. This puts LA Confidential’s written profile in a different descriptive vocabulary from the berry-led names elsewhere in the library.
These are the source’s sensory notes. They help explain the profile without being something a photograph can prove. Keep a visual description of a particular flower separate from an account of what that material smells like.
DNA Genetics lists L.A. Chocolat with Chocolope and L.A. Confidential as parents. That gives a concrete example of LA Confidential appearing one generation further back in another named variety’s family tree.
L.A. Chocolat is therefore a separate cross in the breeder’s catalogue, not a longer spelling of LA Confidential. A descendant’s description belongs to that descendant; it should not silently replace the description of its parent.
The DNA Genetics sources use the name with and without full stops after L and A. This page keeps those spelling forms together, so the punctuation does not create duplicate strain profiles.
A genuinely different full name, such as L.A. Chocolat, needs different treatment. Comparing the stated parents helps distinguish a spelling variation from a separately named cross.
