Behind the name

A name that stayed.
A story with context.

01 / Lineage

Three names in the background

Doja Exclusive names Biscotti, Jealousy and Sherb Bx1 in its Permanent Marker profile. Its heading presents those three names together rather than spelling out a fully bracketed sequence of crosses.

This page preserves that level of detail. A list of ancestral names and an ordered pedigree are not quite the same thing: the latter also explains how the relationships are arranged. Retaining the source’s form avoids introducing an order it has not explicitly supplied.

02 / People

Breeding and selection are different credits

Doja’s profile identifies Permanent Marker as a selection by Doja Exclusive. Leafly’s reporting includes first-hand comments from Seed Junky’s breeders and describes their involvement in its development.

Those credits can coexist. A breeder account describes the development work, while a selection account identifies the particular expression chosen. Keeping both names with their roles gives the story more context than attaching every contribution to one brand.

03 / Aroma

Candy alongside earthy and fuel-like notes

Doja describes a sweet, candy-like character with earthy and diesel associations, adding berry and mint-like notes in its account. The contrasting vocabulary helps explain why the name feels so distinctive.

These are sensory comparisons, not statements that ink or fuel was added to the plant. The name is also not a chemical test: whether a particular sample contains any substance must be established from evidence about that sample, not from a metaphor.

04 / Recognition

Leafly’s 2023 selection

In its December 2023 announcement, Leafly named Permanent Marker its Strain of the Year. The article also describes the variety’s rapid spread across the menus it tracked.

This is a dated editorial recognition from an identified organisation. Keeping the year and awarding publication together makes the claim precise, rather than suggesting a universal ranking or a guarantee about an individual product.

A name, a selection and a photograph

A strain photograph is most useful when the caption records the full name and its contributor. Where the image represents a particular producer’s selection, retain that context too.

The same discipline applies to written descriptions: an account of one selection can illustrate the name without claiming that every plant presented under it is identical. Here the source links let readers follow the selection story and the award announcement separately.

Permanent Marker FAQ

Know the name.
Read the story.

Which genetic lines does Doja name?

Its profile names Biscotti, Jealousy and Sherb Bx1. This page retains that wording without imposing a more detailed crossing order.

Why are both Doja and Seed Junky mentioned?

The sources describe different contributions: Doja’s selection account and Seed Junky’s development work, discussed in Leafly’s reporting.

What did Permanent Marker win in 2023?

Leafly selected it as its Strain of the Year for 2023. That is the specific recognition cited here.

Does the name establish that a flower contains marker ink?

No. A strain name is not an ingredient list or a chemical analysis. It cannot establish the composition of a sample.

Does an award determine every same-named product’s quality?

No. The award is a historical recognition. An individual product or specimen still needs its own identity and supporting information.
