The strain library
Two established names meet in a Serious Seeds classic. Explore White Russian’s attributed pedigree, its early history and the separate records for its automatic version and a later descendant.
Behind the name
Serious Seeds describes White Russian as a cross of its original AK-47 and a White Widow clone from the 1990s. The breeder’s record is the source for the parentage used here.
White Widow already has a separate profile in this library. The relationship makes it a useful companion page, but White Russian is not simply another spelling of that parent. The complete pedigree identifies a distinct cross.
Serious Seeds records a 1996 Cannabis Cup win for White Russian and connects that entry with Amsterdam’s De Dampkring. It is a specific historical reference in the breeder’s account.
Keeping the source and year together gives the award context. It tells a reader about the variety’s documented reception at that time, rather than assigning an undated promise of quality to every later specimen bearing the same name.
On its Auto White Russian page, Serious Seeds describes Autoflowering White Russian #1 as Lowryder #2 crossed with White Russian. This is a separate parentage statement for the automatic version.
The added label therefore carries useful information. When reading an older reference or choosing a photograph, retain the full name, including a version number where supplied. A description of that automatic cross should not silently become a description of the original White Russian.
Serious Seeds describes Serious Kush as a cross of White Russian with an OG Kush clone from the United States. In this record, White Russian appears as a parent of a later named variety.
That is a different relationship from the Auto version described above. The resulting name and the second parent tell you which branch of the family tree you are following. Serious Kush should keep its own identity rather than being folded into the White Russian profile.
Serious Seeds describes sweet, fruity and lightly floral associations for White Russian, with citrus and spice also present in its account. These are sensory notes rather than something a photograph can establish.
A useful reference image adds a different layer: the visible form of an identified specimen. Preserve the exact variety or version name in its caption, especially when comparing White Russian with an Auto version or descendant.
