Behind the name

The name began as a joke.
The story kept growing.

01 / Origins

The Blockberry connection

In reporting that includes interviews with Blockhead and Mobilejay, Leafly identifies Blockberry as Blockhead’s Black Cherry Punch and Tropicana Cookies cross. It connects Super Boof to a selection from that line.

The distinction matters: a genetic line and a particular named selection are related concepts, but they do not automatically describe every specimen in exactly the same way. The source’s account provides the connection without requiring all future references to be treated as interchangeable.

02 / Names

Where Super Boof enters the story

Mobilejay tells Leafly that the Super Boof name began as a joke while he was assessing Blockberry plants. The name remained attached to the selection he helped popularise.

That is a first-person recollection about naming, not an instruction about the plant’s use or a technical quality classification. Reading the anecdote with its speaker makes more sense than treating an unfamiliar slang word as a botanical description.

03 / Recognition

Leafly’s 2024 announcement

Leafly named Super Boof its Strain of the Year in December 2024. Its announcement places the selection’s story alongside its growing recognition among the publication’s audience and industry contacts.

The organisation and year are part of the claim. They identify a particular editorial honour, rather than a universal measurement. That distinction also makes it possible to compare the award with the separate 2023 Permanent Marker announcement without combining two years into one event.

04 / Records

Why a numbered Blockberry reference matters

Blockhead Buds lists Halle Berry 2.0 as Ice Cream Cake crossed with Blockberry #7. That entry retains a number in the parent’s name and identifies a separately named cross.

The record is useful precisely because it is specific. It does not label that parent simply Super Boof. Keep the number and full parent statement when following the reference, rather than assuming every Blockberry selection has the same identity as the one discussed in the naming story.

A selection story is more than a synonym list

A short index may group related names to help people find a page. The profile itself can be more precise: who made the cross, which selection is being discussed, and which name the contributor used.

That same precision will guide the photograph added here. Its caption should retain the contributor’s actual identification, rather than relabelling an unspecified Blockberry plant or a descendant as Super Boof.
