High-Yield Claims
Units, Comparisons and Reported Results

High yield is a performance claim that needs a defined quantity and comparison. A large-looking number does not explain itself. This guide examines how such claims are written, without recommending varieties or describing how to increase production.

A number needs its labels

A quantity can be reported per item, per area or over an interval. These are different bases. Removing the denominator or time reference can make a number easier to display while making it harder to interpret correctly.

Consider an unrelated fictional archive that counts pages per volume and pages per shelf. Both results count pages, but they answer different questions. The arithmetic comparison cannot be made meaningful simply by placing the larger number in a highlighted box. The basis belongs with the number.

Maximum and typical are different

A maximum is not the same summary as an average. An upper value quoted from a set of observations does not automatically describe an ordinary outcome across that set. The statement should retain the statistic the source actually reports.

Words such as up to are therefore part of the claim, not disposable decoration. A summary that removes them can change an upper-bound statement into an apparent expectation. Clear editorial writing preserves the distinction even when it makes the sentence less dramatic.

A comparison needs comparable evidence

A reported observation, an estimate and an unqualified label are different forms of information. Their visual presentation can look similar on a page, but matching typography does not give them matching evidential status. NIST’s measurement resources provide broader context for why results need careful interpretation.

A useful comparison identifies the measured quantity, its basis and how the reported summary was obtained. This page does not supply experimental conditions or performance figures. Its subject is the structure of a claim, rather than a method for achieving a result.

Separate the paired descriptors

Autoflower is a flowering-behaviour descriptor. High yield adds a separate claim about performance. The first word does not validate the second, and the combined phrase does not establish a universal outcome for material placed under the heading.

The key reading principle is to keep quantity, basis and statistic together, and distinguish an attributed statement from an independently documented finding.
